World of Warcraft Beginner PvP Tips
September 13th 2010 00:53
Maybe you are new to the Player versus Player or PvP in World of Warcraft or you would like to hone your skills to take down your opponent. Here are a couple of starter tips for PvP to help refine your game and take it to the next level.
Using the Mouse
I know what you are saying. How could it make that much of a difference? I thought the same thing until I started to use a mouse to control my turning. Right away I could feel my character turning at a quicker pace than previous when I was using the keyboard to control my every direction.
You need to remember that your character movement plays a vital role in your PvP success. By using your mouse, you will be able to make quick direction changes, something that can not be done with a keyboard.
The other benefit from using your mouse to turn is that this will free up your fingers to use more talents. The last thing you want in a PvP environment is to have to pause every time you want cast a spell so you can reach over on your keyboard to get to it.
If you have a few extra bucks to spend, take a look at a gaming mouse, where they have multiple buttons for different applications. While it may cost you a few bucks more than the typical computer mouse, you will notice the difference.
Key Bindings
One of the first bad habits you need to change in your World of Warcraft play style is not to be a mouse clicker. Mouse clicking is okay in a non-PvP environment but it is one of the hardest things to do when your opponents is being operated by another human instead of computer artificial intelligence.
By using key bindings instead of the click of your mouse, you will notice that pressing a key activates the spell quicker.
Eventually the more you use your key bindings, it will become second nature like typing and you will know where the buttons are without taking the time to look at the keyboard.
You can also use your key bindings to target your enemies and friends. This is extremely useful when you are in the middle of a fray and are having a hard time targeting your party member to heal them.
Limiting Spells
Have you ever seen those screenshots where a person has every spell imaginable on their action bars? Not only does this make it difficult to bind each one to a key, but it can be taxing on you to learn them. You will noticed when you PvP there are only certain spells or talents you use.
These are the ones that you need on your primary bar. If you use and Addon like Bartender, you can set certain parameters to auto hide certain bars when you are in combat or in other situations.
Macros Are Your Friend
This maybe the hardest thing you will learn that can have the biggest change on your PvP experience. A macro allows you to do a variety of things, like maybe cast a certain healing spell when you mouse over a friendly or allow you to cast one spell or another depending on the target. The biggest problem with macros is that some of the changes Blizzard makes to the game’s user interface, it alters how a macro is coded. So there could be times when you will need to recode your macros down the road.
Remember, in PvP it starts with baby steps. You are not going to be the best right out of the gate. There are other players who have spent years honing their PvP skills in World of Warcraft. If you take the time to practice and use this simple PvP strategy steps laid out for you, you will begin the path to a better PvP experience.
