Are World of Warcraft Collector's Editions Worth the Extra Money?

August 22nd 2010 04:27
Blizzard has announced for their Collector's edition for upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm. For the price of $79.99 you will receive the following with your Cataclysm Collector's Edition.

* Art book, 176 pages
* Lil' Deathwing in-game pet
* Cataclysm soundtrack
* Deathwing mousepad

* WoW TCG cards

If you prefer to purchase the Cataclysm expansion without the above mentioned additions, you will have to shell out $49.99 when the game is released.

The question I have, is the extra money you spend on the Collector's edition worth what you will be receiving?

For starters, this is the same standard package Blizzard has included in past Collector's Edition for World of Warcraft and has only changed the content of the items based on the edition being released. So if you have purchased a Collector's Edition in the past, this may be something you have grown tired of.

Blizzard could take a big step and change up what they are offering with the Cataclysm Collector's Edition.

How about instead of the in game pet, art book, and other items, you receive a free coupon for a Race Change or Class Change?

This would be ideal for Cataclysm because they will be offering new character class combinations that may appeal to you. Personally I have been leveling my Dwarf hunter so I can change his race to Human when Cataclysm is released.

On a sidenote, it has always bugged me that you could not make Human Hunter in World of Warcraft.

Now I know this idea may cost Blizzard a little bit of money in the long run because you would have less people shelling out the fees for the Class or Race changes, but this would be a better way of showing that they are not trying to nickel and dime their customers every chance they get.

Instead we will be left with more items to clutter up our desks that end up being trash can fodder by the time Blizzard releases their next expansion for World of Warcraft.

I think the inclusion of the user guide like they did for the first one would have been a good addition - I do like the idea of the free pet though but mousepads are so redunadnt these days. Have u got a release date for Cataclysm yet??

I am in complete agreement with the mousepad.

As for the date, I have been hearing around Nov or Dec of this year, just in time for Christmas. From what I gather they were trying for October but wanted to wait another month.

Yeah, all I keep hearing is NOV. My house just got burgled and the bastards stole my computer. Hopefully back on in a few more weeks - stinging to play again and get some great gear prior to expansion. What server u on?

I have been playing on the Alliance side of Maelstrom. Ever since I found RP-PVP, I have been hooked.

Where do you call home?
